Hawkins Mountain from the west
From the trailhead (see driving directions) we immediately went off
trail and headed up the ridge to our SE (the one just S of Camp
Creek). The first 100 feet or so was snowy with very mild
bushwacking, but it soon opened up so that we could usually avoid
brush. Once the ridge became pronounced at around 5,200' the route to
the west summit of Hawkins Mountain was a straight-forward ridge walk
(we were kicking steps in the snow by around 6,200') and the views
were out.
